How it all started

It all started from a dream of breaking the trend of being an employee to someone or to some institutions. My parents were so much tied in their day job as office/government workers. In fact, my parents have been working for the University of the Philippines for over 35 years now. As their son, I was a witness of how tiring their days were as employees. When we were in childhood days, I remember going with our parents to our Tilapia fish farm but really unaware of what was going on in that property.

Years have passed, my parents had mentioned that one of our businesses before was Tilapia farming and they said that it really helped them to support our education together with my 2 siblings but then things happened that forced them to stop the business and just focused with their day job as employees of the University of the Philippines, Los Banos, Laguna. My father was working as an Administrative Assistant in the College of Forestry UPLB and my mother is a Research Associate in BioSci UPLB. Since my mom has knowledge about fishes, as she’s been working with Aquaculture Research and development, she thought of starting a business out of what she knows. So, they put up a business, with their friends and colleagues, in Brgy. Danka Los Banos, Laguna, a rented property, but unfortunately, during that time, I temporarily lost my interest in farming because of the influence of my peers so I was keener to just spend my time with my friends and myself (high school life). The business went really well at first but then, the typhoon “Milenyo” devastated the farm, destroyed my parents’ dream of succeeding in ornamental fish farming.

Few years later, I spoke to my parents about restarting a farming business and luckily, we were able to put up again a small fish farm in Los Banos out of our own property and from there, things started to get better.

At first, rearing ornamental fishes was just my hobby but because of what I see from my mother, since she has knowledge about aquaculture, I was encouraged to switch it to a lucrative business.

This business started from a vision, which I believe was from God. I prayed hard and worked hard for the Aquapets Laguna vision to come into reality. I always have the belief in the words of God mentioned in Proverbs 16:3 which says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans”. This was what I did, I trusted the Lord fully and committed my plans to Him. I can proudly say that by God’s grace, Aquapets Laguna has been operating really well and will continue to prosper in the years to come.
